Um... I'm sorry.

This relationship just isn't working for me.

I'm at www.dailypreciousness.org now. So change that bookmark.

My birthday this morning had me filled with questions... Is the great war with the squirrels finally come to an end? Have the squirrels sent me their first peace envoy? Is this merely a clever trick?

My mind was awash with these questions: questions that fill me with hope… and suspicion. Two peace offerings were left for me this morning. Apparently, they were from the squirrels.

Of course, there's no simple litmus test, no manner to delve into the consciousness of my enemies… No divination for their dubious intentions.

I found the first brightly colored, furry little stuffed animal on my doorstop this morning as I left the house. He was smiling (mischievously?) and sported a multi-colored ribbon. The second little toy, smaller and holding a little nut, was perched atop my car. (Was he impersonating a parking ticket?)

I don’t have to explain the shock that these items presented me with this morning. Bleary eyed and groggy from the previous night’s technological and chemical excesses, I was in no mood to attempt to unlock the tightly bound puzzles of my enemies. “Plans within plans,” I commented to myself. I was struck with an immediate and paralyzing realization: THEY KNOW WHERE I LIVE. A wave of tension struck my body. Quoting an old saying, I reminded myself that, “fear is the mind killer… I will let my fears wash over me like water over reeds.”

Perhaps most shocking, they both bore little cards wishing me a happy birthday. They know my date of birth! Were they toying with me?

Or could this be the harbinger of peaceful relations with the squirrels?

The question faced me as clearly as any question ever could. Was this the turning point in my battles? There was no way to know.

I needed a sign… some clue as to my course of action! I looked around feverishly for some indication of what to do. Should I accept this present? Or should I remain firm in my resolve that the infidels must not be accepted into the ranks of my anti-squirrel world.

And then I saw it, I saw the sign that I needed… it was a subtle clue that showed me the way and helped me to take hold of the situation.

It was not the end of the war… On the contrary, it was an indication that the war had only just begun.
